The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), together with the Department of Government Enablement (DGE), held coordination meetings to discuss the implementation of what is described as the world’s first integrated AI Judicial Platform project. The platform aims to support judicial and legal decision-making processes with artificial intelligence, entirely under human oversight and approval, while increasing procedural efficiency and safeguarding accuracy and consistency in judicial work.
Phase One Begins in September
The project’s joint steering committee, chaired by Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, discussed the work plan for rolling out the comprehensive judicial platform across the full judicial workflow. The platform’s first phase is expected to begin in September, opening the way for a phased implementation process spread over 18 months.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, said of the development: “Another global achievement has been added to the UAE’s record of accomplishments: the launch of the world’s first integrated AI judicial platform of its kind. This step reflects our belief that innovation is a path toward more efficient and faster justice, and reinforces the UAE’s position as a global model in advancing government and judicial work.”
The Goal of Modernising Judicial Operations
Al Abri stated that this move toward an innovative judicial system reflects the vision of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to drive innovation and embrace the technologies of the future in order to advance government services. He added that the initiative is also aligned with the directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to develop the judicial system in line with the highest international standards and to accelerate the adoption of smart justice technologies.
Al Abri noted that ADJD’s AI platform will deliver advanced capabilities through an integrated suite of smart solutions that will contribute to modernising judicial operations and streamlining procedures. The platform brings together, under a single structure, functions such as automatically analysing case files and legal documents, providing instant access to legislation, quickly searching and comparing precedents, generating AI-assisted legal recommendations and analytical reports, and supporting the drafting of legal pleadings and judgments. Officials emphasise that the platform will not replace judges, and will function as a decision-support tool, with the final decision remaining entirely with the judges.
An Expansion Plan Reaching Into the ADR Ecosystem
Another notable dimension of the story is that this platform is expected to form the foundation of a broader AI-supported legal ecosystem: commercial arbitration, digital mediation, smart contracts, real-time legal translation, and predictive dispute analytics are counted within the scope of this expansion. This is a development that clearly sets out the UAE’s plan to bring not only the judicial process, but also alternative dispute resolution methods, onto an AI-supported infrastructure.
