Mediation is not only a legal method for resolving complex issues in international trade, business, and social relations but also a strategic tool that strengthens dialogue and collaboration. In today’s world, where creative and peaceful solutions are increasingly vital, preparing younger generations for this field is a critical necessity. The Bucerius Mediation Competition stands out as one of the key international platforms aimed at strengthening the culture of mediation and meeting this need.
Held annually since 2015, the competition marked its 10th edition this year, taking place from November 29 to December 1, 2024, at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. Bringing together university teams from various countries, the event provided participants with an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate their mediation skills through scenarios based on international trade disputes.
Winners and Awards
This year’s winning team was Philipps-Universität Marburg / ICC Mediation Team Marburg. The second-place award went to the APIIT Sri Lanka Law School Team, while the Marlies Bauckmann Award for Best Negotiation Style was presented to Kenneth Elo of Queen’s University Belfast.
