According to a report by Anadolu Agency, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that 826,548 cases were resolved amicably in 2024 through the mediation system, which facilitates the resolution of legal disputes without resorting to court proceedings.
In a statement released by the Ministry, Minister Tunç emphasized that alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods enhance access to justice, support social harmony, and reduce the burden on courts. Tunç stated, “As the Ministry of Justice, we will continue our efforts to further develop alternative dispute resolution methods without interruption.”
Mediation System Resolved Over 4 million Cases Since 2013
The mediation system was legally established with the enactment of the Law on Mediation in Civil Disputes No. 6325 in 2013 and came into effect with voluntary mediation on November 14, 2013. Currently, 45,154 mediators are actively working, and since the inception of the system, a total of 4,316,754 cases have been resolved through mutual agreement between parties.
Mediation Statistics for 2024
Minister Tunç highlighted that in 2024, 613,697 cases were resolved through voluntary mediation, while 212,851 cases were settled under mandatory mediation.
On September 1, 2023, the scope of mediation was expanded. This included disputes arising from rental agreements, the partition of movable and immovable properties, dissolution of partnerships, disputes related to condominium ownership, neighborhood law issues, and agricultural production contracts, all of which were incorporated into mandatory mediation requirements.
