The Number of Cases Resolved through Mediation in Turkey Exceeds 4 Million

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç highlighted the government’s significant steps towards promoting alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods in judicial processes, emphasizing the value of mediation and conciliation mechanisms. Tunç stated, “The number of cases resolved through mediation has surpassed 4 million,” stressing the contribution of these methods to social harmony and alleviating the workload of courts.

Key Highlights from the Statement:

  • Total number of cases subject to mediation: 6,444,988
  • Out of these, 4,072,786 cases were resolved through agreements.
  • Overall success rate in mediation: 65%

Mandatory Mediation:

  • Labor Disputes (since January 1, 2018): 49% success rate. Out of 2,185,432 total cases, 1,077,534 were resolved through agreements. The average resolution time is 10 days.
  • Commercial Disputes (since January 1, 2019): 40% success rate. Out of 839,764 total cases, 334,440 were resolved. The average resolution time is 20 days.
  • Consumer Disputes (since July 28, 2020): 37% success rate. Out of 434,350 total cases, 160,995 were resolved through agreements. The average resolution time is 10 days.
  • Rental Disputes (since September 1, 2023): 47% success rate. Out of 234,535 total cases, 110,055 were resolved through mediation. The average resolution time is 10 days.

Voluntary Mediation:

  • Out of 2,442,282 cases concluded in voluntary mediation, an impressive 97% success rate was achieved, resolving 2,369,702 cases.
